Senior Farmer’s Market

PLEASE NOTE: There will be a delay in the mailing of the coupons until the stay at home order in the State of Ohio has been lifted. At this time, the earliest the coupons will be mailed is late June to begin use in July. We will continue to accept applications in the meantime and answer any questions concerning the program.

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a federally and state funded program administered by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Services Agency and by the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA).  ODA provides additional state funds to support SFMNP operation within Ohio.

Anyone who is age 60 years of age or older at the time of application and has an annual household income of 185% of the Federal Poverty Level is eligible for the SFMNP (see income levels on the bottom of the application).

Historically, Ross County was the lone county that was designated to participate in the program, Now, thanks to the ODA increased funding in the 2020-2021 budget, the Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc. (AAA7) is able to expand the SMNFP to all 10 counties in our district including Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton.

Eligible seniors receive ten $5 coupons that are valid to use from May to October with authorized farmers at Farmer’s Markets, roadside stands and farm stands.

Applications should be mailed to the address shown on the top of the application. Coupons, along with additional information, will be mailed to eligible persons no later than April 24, 2020.  Coupons can be used beginning May 1, 2020.  Click the LINK HERE for a copy of the participant application and additional information.

Farmers who are interested in participating in the SFMNP must be an individual who grows and sells authorized, local produce, herbs and/or honey at farmers’ markets, road side stands, or farm stands.  They must participate in one training for new farmers. They also must follow and comply with guidelines and responsibilities as set forth by the Ohio SFNMP.  Click the LINK HERE for a copy of the farmer application and additional information.
