JACKSON COUNTY ELDER COALITION
On
April 26, 2002!, the Jackson County Elder Coalition held a meeting at the
Jackson County Senior Center. The coalition was developed by the Area Agency on
Aging District 7, Inc to help bridge the service gaps for at-risk older adults
living in the community. The mission of the coalition is to preserve the dignity
and rights of older adults, to promote their independence by preventing abuse,
neglect, and exploitation through increasing community awareness of elder abuse,
and the development of additional protective services. Members of the group
include professionals from law enforcement, social services agencies, adult
protective services, nursing homes, and other agencies interested in working
collaboratively to protect the community’s at-risk older adults.
At present, the coalition is partnering with RSVP and the Sheriffs Department to obtain a grant to develop a TRIAD Program within the Jackson County Sheriffs Department. TRIAD is a program that promotes seniors and law enforcement working in partnership to reduce crime against older adults.
