Brown County

Pamela K. Matura, Executive Director of the Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc. (AAA7) and Don Dragoo, of Fayetteville, Ohio.  Mr. Dragoo recently participated in the AAA7’s Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest.  Mr. Dragoo received 1st place in Watercolor/Floral for his painting titled “Summer Bouquet” and 2nd place in Watercolor/Seascape for his painting titled “The Harbor.”

Gallia County

Seated: Mary and Gene Close of Gallia County.  Standing: Sharon Bowman, Community Relations Coordinator for thee Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc.  Mrs. Close recently participated in the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest where she received Best of Show (Professional Category) for her painting titled, “Sentinel.”  She also received 1st place in the professional categories in Mix Media for her paintings titled, “Clown,” “Hilltown,” and Cattails.”

Lavina Morris and Charles Murray recently participated in the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest.  Lavina Morris won 1st place and Charles Murray received 2nd place for their essays on Childhood Memories.

Highland County

Marilyn Hoagin, Donald Dragoo, Gloria Dragoo, and Gene Type recently participated in the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest.  Marilyn Hoagin received “Best of Show” for her paintings titled “A Scoop of Grapes,” “Baby Bunny,” Homestead Barn,” and “Flying Clipper.”  Gene Tye received 3rd place in Acrylic-Animal & Birds for his painting titled “Cardinal,” and 3rd place in Acrylic-Landscape for his painting titled” Sugar Maple Autumn Southern Ohio.”  Donald Dragoo won 1st place in Watercolor-Floral for his painting titled “Summer Bouquet,” and 2nd place in Watercolor-Seascape for his painting titled “The Harbor.” Gloria Dragoo placed 1st in the essay category for her writing titled “Dad Stopped Roaming Today.”

Jackson County

Lawrence County

Agnes Lightner recently participated in the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest.  She received a 1st place for her essay titled “Childhood Memories.”

Pike County

Sharon Bowman, Community Relations Coordinator for the Area Agency on Aging is pictured with Elmer and Pauline Smith of Pike County. Elmer Smith recently participated in the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s Art Show and Essay/Poetry contest.  Mr. Smith received 1st place for his poem titled “Casualties.”

Ross County

Carolyn Lee received a 1st place in Pastels/Other for her painting “Peace Within,” 2nd place in Pastels/Animals for her painting “Surprise,” and 3rd place in Pastels/Floral for her painting “Rose.” Judy Sweptson received 1st place in Pastels/Landscape for her painting “Community United Methodist Church.” Violet Wright received 1st place in Watercolor/Landscape for her painting “Where the Luscious Berries Grow,” and 1st place in Watercolor/Animals & Birds for her painting “Aesthetic Pleasure,” and 3rd place in Watercolor/Floral for her painting “Lilies Grace the Pond,” and 2nd place in Watercolor/Still Life for her painting “Tools of the Trade.”

Scioto County

Ms Conder and Mr. Woods recently participated in the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s Art Show and Essay/Poetry Contest.  Bev Conder received three 1st places for her paintings titled, “American Goldfinch with Daisies,” “Cape Blanco Lighthouse,” and “Ole Glory.” Patrick D. Woods received a 1st place for his poem titled “The Hand.” Not pictured but participated was Dorothy Downie who received a 1st place for her writing titled “Why?”

AAA7's Art Show and Essay Contest

            The Area Agency on Aging recently hosted its 21st Annual Senior Citizens Art Show/Essay/Poetry Contest in the Atrium of the Fine and Performing Arts Building at the University of Rio Grande, Rio Grande, Ohio.  The Senior Citizens Art Show and Essay Contest showcased 200 paintings and 47 essay/poems entries by senior citizens from Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto, and Vinton Counties.
