Older Americans Month - Resolution

Executive Director of the Area Agency on Aging District 7, Pamela K. Matura, met with the Gallia County Commissioners in honor of the federally recognized Older Americans Month.  The commissioners signed a resolution honoring Senior Citizens Day, Tuesday, May 21, 2002. The resolution states “…this day provides us with a special opportunity to honor and appreciate those who have given so much of themselves through sacrifice, dedicated service, hard work, strong morals and a love for their fellow man as well as future generations; and Whereas, older Gallia County residents consist of parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends who have served and continued to serve as our teachers, our leaders, and our  “unpaid caregiver heroes.”

Senior Citizens Month is also a good time to recognize those who serve the older population.  The Area Agency on Aging District 7’s providers in Gallia County are: Family Senior Care, Inc., Gallia County Council on Aging,  Holzer Extra Care, Medi Home Care, and  Medi Home Health Private Care.

Gallia County has four volunteer nursing home ombudsmen. Jackie Coonen, Paul Plymale,  John  Williams and  Reeda Williams serve in this capacity and visit monthly with residents in  nursing homes. Ombudsmen advocate for older adults.

The Area Agency on Aging District 7 serves ten counties: Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto, and Vinton.
