Annual Intergenerational Walk Held
On a bright and breezy
April afternoon, over 80 individuals of all ages
participated in the Annual Intergenerational Walk
“Walk for Ages” on the campus of the University of
Rio Grande (URG). Coordinated by the
Intergenerational Studies class under the direction
of Barbara Boley, Ph.D. and sponsored in part by the
Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc. (AAA7), the
walk was deemed a huge success. The
Intergenerational Studies class is a requirement for
the Certificate in Intergenerational Studies that is
being newly offered beginning this fall term. Nina
R. Keller, Assistant Director/Director of Planning,
Rita Tracewell, Program /Planning Associate, and
Debbie Crawford, Human Resources Assistant/Benefits
Specialist represented AAA7 in the planning and
worked diligently to make this event a success.
Also, assisting with the walk were students from
River Valley High School Key Club and volunteers
from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
Assisting the day of the walk was Dr. Ana Maria
Pirs-Mendieta, an AAA7 Board of Trustee member.

Keller and Rita Tracewell getting ready for the
walk.
The walk was held during the week this year to
encourage participation from the student body,
congregate meal participants at URG, and children.
The Holzer Medical Center Wellness staff provided
blood pressure screening, body mass index
information and personal wellness profiles for
participants. Healthy refreshments were provided.
