Executive Director Pamela Matura announces that the Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc. (AAA7) Senior EXPO 2006 at the Scioto County Fairgrounds in Lucasville, Ohio had a record-breaking attendance of nearly 3500 people and exhibitors. People from all over southern Ohio enjoyed this year’s theme, ”Good Times Down on the Farm,” with colorful bandanas and hats, as well as farmer’s market displays, animals, barns and other farm-like decorations. Seniors got the opportunity to play bingo, participate in games, get a souvenir picture from the ‘Barn Down on the Farm,’ enjoy friends and acquaintances, dance, sing, and listen to live music throughout the day.

A Pie Auction replaced the ever-popular Cake Auction, enticing bidders to win the homemade pies entered by the Top Pie Baker of nine different counties, with proceeds going to the Pie Baker’s County Senior Center. Pat Ball of Oak Hill Financial Insurance kept the audience entertained and the bids climbing higher as he served as auctioneer.
Ethel Chambers, the Top Pie Baker of the Adams County Senior Citizens Center, baked a Homegrown Raspberry Pie that brought $230 won by JoAnn Blanton of Boyd County Ford. Ms. Blanton donated the pie to the oldest person in the audience at Senior EXPO 2006, Ms. Flora Bruce who is 93 years young.

Top Pie Baker from the Brown County Senior Citizens Center, Deloris Brooks baked a Pineapple Cream Cheese pie that netted $220 by top bidder, Jean Schmidt, U.S. Congress. U.S. Representative Schmidt graciously donated the pie back to auction for the Gallia County since Gallia County Senior Center’s Top Pie Baker, Anne Perroud, could not attend Senior EXPO 2006. Pamela Matura, representing the Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc., won the homemade pie from Gallia County with a bid of $120.
Freda Jenkins, the Top Pie Baker of the Highland County Senior Citizens Center, baked a Pecan pie that was won by Oak Hill Banks and Oak Hill Financial Insurance with a bid of $100. Oak Hill Banks and Oak Hill Financial Insurance repeated the effort for the Black Raspberry pie baked by the Top Pie Baker of the Jackson County Board on Aging, Roberta Frye, and again won the pie with a $100 bid.

Top Pie Baker of the Lawrence County CAO, Edna Dean, saw her pecan pie receive a final bid of $100 from Todd Book, State Representative, also representing U.S. Congressman Ted Strickland. John Harbert, Pike County Commissioner, was successful with $140 in winning the Raspberry pie baked by Wanda Lawson, the Top Pie Baker from the CAC of Pike County.

William Ogg, Scioto County Treasurer and Riffe Campaign Committee teamed up to win the bid of $160 for the Apple pie baked by Wilma Rockwell, the Top Pie Baker from U.S.S.A., Inc.

Top Pie Baker of the Vinton County Senior Citizens Center, Dola Powell’s WV Almost Heaven pie was the last pie to be auctioned and netted $100 from bidder Mark Kuhn, Scioto County Prosecutor.
