Are You a Grandparent or Other Relative Raising a Child Other Than Your Own?  If So . . .The Caregiver Support Program at the Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc. cares and wants to help.

WHAT IS A KINSHIP CAREGIVER? Kinship Caregiver refers to persons caring full time for a relative or non-relative’s child and/or children in their homes.

A Kinship Caregiver provides parental care to a child whose parents are unable or unwilling to do so.
©
The Kinship Care arrangements could be temporary or a permanent placement in a caregiver’s home.
©
Kinship Care includes those relationships established through an informal arrangement, a legal custody or guardianship order, a relative foster care placement or a kinship adoption.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM

Identifies grandparents and kinship caregiver needs.
©
Links grandparents and kinship caregivers with community services.
©
Provides grandparent and kinship caregivers with educational and resource materials.
©
Offers individual support for each kinship family’s unique needs.

Offers a lending library for caregivers to borrow videos and books on a wide range of caregiver issues.
©
Provides supplemental services to complement the care provided by grandparent and kinship caregivers.

ELIGIBILITY
©
To be eligible for the services provided by the Caregiver Support Program, you must be 55 years of age or older and caring for someone 18 years of age or younger, or be caring for an adult child age 19-59 with a disability (not including natural or adoptive parents).
